Correspondence Courses in Indian States

Correspondence education is very important in India as most of the rural population do not have access to higher education. Apart from the central universities that provide distance learning in India, there are many more state universities that also provide correspondence courses in India. All these institutes strive to achieve one common goal, education for all. Read on to find out more about correspondence learning in various Indian states.

The number of correspondence courses offered as well as the specialty areas in which they are offered differs for each state. Every year, an estimated four and a half lakh students enroll in the different open universities of different states.

The first name in the list of open universities is the Indira Gandhi National Open University which is located in Delhi. This distance learning university offers graduation as well as post graduation degrees in fields as diverse as commerce, business management, arts, information technology, science, library and information management and many others. It also offers diploma and post graduate diploma courses to its students through the correspondence format. Some of the other well known universities that are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India are:

Yashwantrao Chavan University of Mumbai and the Yashwantrao Chavan Open University in Maharashtra; the Osmania University of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh; Amritsar’s Punjab University; the Tamil Nadu Directoriate of Distance Education In Karikudi Tamil Nadu; The Madurai Kamraj University in Madurai; University of Madras in Chennai and many others.

All of the above universities offer correspondence learning in two formats. One is the online format where all the study material as well as the examination is online. These universities also have a live chat option through which students can get proper guidance and assistance. Another format is where the study material is in physical format of books and is delivered to students who apply for the correspondence courses. The examination is conducted at various study centers across the country.
